Guidelines for Historic Vehicle Registration in ACT

The MX-5 Club of NSW Canberra Chapter is pleased to offer the facilitation of ACT Concessional Registration as an Historic vehicle if the vehicle meets the requirements of that classification.

To participate you must be a financial member of an affiliated ACT motor club (MX-5 Club of NSW). The car must be registered in the name of the club member and meet the minimum age requirement of greater than 30 years. It must also meet the unmodified requirements as set out in the ACT Conditional Registration Guidelines. The Council of ACT Motor Clubs also provides guidelines.

If the vehicle is a new ACT registration, a road worthy certificate must be obtained first and then be inspected by the Club Registrar who will complete the Application for Concessional Registration of a Motor Vehicle. If already registered in the ACT, then a completed Application for Concessional Registration of a Motor Vehicle and the registration papers are all that is required.

Concessional registration is also available for Modified Historic Vehicles but an engineering certificate is required for the modifications and a roadworthy certificate is required if the vehicle is being transferred from standard Historic Concessional registration or not registered in the modified state before or having registration in another state.

Renewal of Historic Concessional registration requires the same process described above and also presentation of the log book.

The registrar for the Canberra Chapter is Norm Barker historicmxact@gmail.com. Contact Norm to arrange the inspection once you are satisfied that your vehicle meets the Historic classification.
