The Low Road and The High Road to Kurrajong

The Low Road and the High Road to Kurrajong.

McDonald’s North Penrith was an ideal starting point for this run around the Hawkesbury. The overflow car park is big enough to fit all ten cars in a line and facilities for the 15 people ready for fun. Our new member John Walsh was introduced around.

Ron and Jacqui Quester organised this fun run some weeks ago after a great meal at Kravings in Kurrajong, only to find that they (Kravings) were changing to events only. In their usual style they quickly changed to a new venue, Village Kitchen in Kurrajong. Then Ron had an appointment that could not be moved. Jackie Briggs jumped in to guide us around her home grounds up to Kurrajong so no one would miss out on the fun. Her first time as run leader showed her to be a seasoned campaigner.

Jackie led us off along Castlereagh Road and past the white-water rafting centre on to Richmond. Over the bells line and turn left to the river and down the roller coaster on to the flood-plain then back around the RAAF base and into historic Windsor. Only one red light was enough for us all to catch up. Passing over the new “flood-proof” bridge and on to Freemans Reach Road we started to wind our way back up the hill.

Garry Keyvar, ever our local historian, pointed out “Reibycroft” the home estate of Mary Reibey. A convict turned successful businesswoman in the early colony who also brought up seven children.

Following the road back towards North Richmond we pulled over at the Streeton Lookout for a break and photo opportunity looking over the Richmond flatland back to the RAAF base and on to Parramatta and Sydney. So much history. Taking off again we drove straight through North Richmond on to Gross Vale Road around the great scenery of this part of the mountains and looped back to Kurrajong and our Destination Village Kitchen. A great not-so little restaurant with a menu to meet all tastes.

Rob Wilko did a great job with his camera and trip recorder; this is a link to the page to see all the work. https://www.relive.cc/view/vXOdenKmAk6

Thanks to Ron and Jacqui Quester and Jackie Briggs. Well done.
