A month ago, two of our members Mark Gray and Rodney Green, were having a discussion and the topic of the Singleton High School annual car show came up. The car show is to raise funds for the running of the school’s Special Education Facility so an idea was hatched to put on a display of the different models of MX5’s.
An early start was required to get the group form the Cameron Park McDonalds to Singleton High school by 9:00am so with 7 cars in tow Mark led the group on the windy road around Mt Sugarloaf before joining the Hunter Expressway. Prior organisation and a couple of radio calls meant that two more cars of John & Chris and Rob merged with the group as they passed the Kurri exit and further along Marlene joined the group at Wittingham making a total of 10 cars plus Rod’s car for the display.
Arriving at the display it was line up under the club’s and Mazda banners for the day along with 100’s of vehicles for all around the state, everything from Hotrods, Holden and Ford clubs, vintage cars and even a few 4WDs all of different vintages such as 1959 GoGomobile Dart, 1956 FJ HoldenD and a 1965 Jaguar convertible. Due to the last few years being cancelled due to covid it was the biggest rollup for years. Was there any interest in our cars? Surprisingly with all the Classic cars on display there was with many of our group discussing the virtues of our rides, all up 11 cars and 16 members attended made up of 2 Na, 1 NB, 2 NC and 6 ND’s.
On a side issue while talking to a member of the Newcastle Vintage car club, owner of a 1934 Oldsmobile L34, it was interesting to find they had the same issues as we in getting volunteers for our committee positions. Good to feel we aren’t the only ones.
Many thanks to Mark Gray for organising the run and Rodney for our display.
