Pappinbarra Run
13 March 2021 / Wayne Lang
On a cold and miserable morning we arrived to find Michael and Gayle already at the Port Service Centre in their 10th Anniversary NB. Closely followed by Peter in his brand new smokey blue RFGT and Keirans NB Heritage, Allen in his ND, then Rob and Rhonda pulled up in their white NC after driving down from Coffs and last but not least Greg in his RFGT.
It was decided to head towards Wauchope and turn right into Stoney Creek Rd, until reaching Redbank Rd. By now the rain was really quite heavy, but we soldiered on, tops up of course.
We turned left onto Pembroke Road and continued on through Beechwood along Pappinbarra Road to Pappinbarra proper. We passed our morning tea stop to enjoy a bit more of the drive through some great twisties until the tar ended.
So we chucked a 180 and retraced our tracks back to Pappinbarra where we pulled up for our picnic lunch at the "Progress Association" shelter shed.
Everyone brought some cake and a thermos of coffee/tea. We chatted amongst each other for 40 minutes or so and were soon on our way to our luncheon destination at the Telegraph Point pub.
We continued along Pembroke Road and left over the bridge into Reids Road and followed Rollands Plains Road toward, you guessed it... Rollands Plains.
Upon reaching the Y intersection at Bril Bril Road, we chucked a U-turn and set off back toward Telegraph Point.
After reaching Telegraph Point pub, we grabbed a couple of tables outside as it was now quite muggy, and there was a nice cool breeze coming through. We ordered our respective lunches and a beverage each. The food was tasty and relatively inexpensive.
We enjoyed some relaxed conversation and laughter, then steadily started to thin out until only Rob, Rhonda, Cath and myself remained.
Because Rob and Rhonda were heading back to Coffs Harbour, we accompanied them north until just out of Kempsey, then Cath phoned Rhonda to ask if they'd like to stop in at the "Garden Bar and Kitchen" situated in the old Cheese Factory at Frederickton for a coffee? They both agreed.
We enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee and Rhonda a pot of tea and some cake, before heading downstairs to have a look at some of the handmade furniture.
We strolled around there for half an hour and then bid each other safe travels until next time we meet.
A fun drive and a nice relaxed day with a great group of people, on what ended up being a pretty fair turn out for such a damp day.
