Exeter Café

13 February, 2025

One good thing that comes with the expansion of the Shoalhaven is it has given us new places to start our runs. The North Nowra Tavern has a large rear carpark which is an ideal meeting place for runs heading up Kangaroo Valley Road. At 9:15am today, the carpark was almost empty; however, it probably wouldn’t be quite as easy to park later in the day.

Sixteen of us, in 4 white, 4 red and one blue MX5’s, had a dream run to Kangaroo Valley. This was the first run in years where we didn’t experience roadworks, trucks, caravans or slow drivers blocking our way. But as the saying goes ‘all good things come to an end’. The group became slightly separated as we continued up Barrengarry. The addition of a crazy mustang driver certainly added ‘flavour’ to the drive. The driver overtook a few MX5’s on the inside and others over double lines… some people shouldn't have a license… We were all pleased when he disappeared.

Misty light rain was falling as we arrived at the Robertson Cheese Factory for morning tea, where we were met by two more members who live locally..and drive a white MX5. The staff were friendly, and the food and drink choices suited everyone, with scones being a popular choice. We basically had the cafe to ourselves, so it was a very relaxed atmosphere. We probably spent too much time chatting as we missed the opportunity to have a bit of retail therapy… Anda and Rose did quickly peek into a shop as everyone else headed to their cars… a red handbag was almost purchased.

On the short drive from here to Exeter, Google decided to change the run route, so we spent a bit more time on the highway and arrived at Exeter General Store Cafe (also the Post Office) for lunch about 10mins early. The cafe menu had a good variety of food on offer, and it was delicious. Some of us would return just to have another steak. The outdoor area was well shaded with trees and umbrellas and was a pleasant place to have lunch. As usual conversations flowed and were only interrupted by a few large trucks that occasionally rattled through the intersection. This was our first time here and is definitely worth revisiting.

Thanks Bob and Linda for organising a great day out.
