The Dorian timing system is commonly used at NSW race tracks for many race and supersprint events. It consists of a transmitter attached to each car, and a receiver connected to an antenna loop under the track at the start-finish line.

The Dorian Timing System is used at rounds of the NSW Supersprint Championship, MX-5 Cup, and many other race events. It is NOT used for MX-5 Club track days at Wakefield Park or Sydney Motor Sport Park.

Most drivers hire the Dorian transmitters for their cars on an event-by-event basis, due to the relatively high cost of buying a transmitter. With the rental cost increasing recently, the MX-5 Club has organised a group buy of Dorian transmitters for club members.

MX-5 Club members can join the group buy and order any of the following Dorian models:

  • Micro16000 is the most common model, usually orange, and is the hire model.
  • Tx16000 is blue and much bigger. Probably not suitable for MX-5s. 
  • Veh16000 is intended to be hard wired into the vehicle, and has no battery. 

The price for any of these models is $374 plus $5 delivery, which is around $100 off the retail price. With the hire price of a Dorian rising to $25 per day at many events, it would only take about 15 days at the track for the investment to pay off. Owning a Dorian also relieves you of the need to visit the timing tower to collect and then return a rental Dorian.

The Micro16000 and Tx16000 models come with a battery charger and 2 mounting brackets. The Veh16000 has no battery and hence does not need a charger.

This group buy is open now, and closes on Friday 30 May.

Once the group buy closes, the list of details will be supplied to Dorian Industries, and they will send an invoice to each of the participants. Once that invoice is paid, the unit will be dispatched.

This group buy requires at least 15 participants. If that number is not reached by the closing date, the group buy will be cancelled.
