2014 NSW Supersprint Round 3, Sunday 15th June, at the Sydney Motor Sport Park North Circuit.
The MX-5 Club takes the lead in the championship. Yay!
Although we were outscored by the ARDC on the MX-5 unfriendly SMSP North Circuit, we still scored well, and with some defections of ARDC championship registrants to other clubs, we have taken a slim 4 point lead over the ARDC in the championship.
The MX-5 Club was represented by 18 drivers. Conditions were good, but due to a couple of delays only 4 runs were available. The first delay was early in the day with over an hour lost due to an oil trail deposited all 2.8 km around the track.
There was another delay in the afternoon, this time as a result of MX-5 club member Kyle Jackson making heavy contact with the wall at turn 1 in the MX-5 he shares with his father Craig. A couple of other MX-5 club drivers in the same run group were quickly on the scene to help Kyle, and they soon reported back that he was shaken but seemed unhurt, although he still had to make a precautionary visit to the track medical centre.
2014 NSW Supersprint Rnd 3 results summary
Class 1B - Stewart Temesvary and Bryan Shedden 1st and 2nd again, the same as the last round
Class 1D - Mike Kelsey in 2nd
Class 2A - Tony Williams, Scott McGarry and Jim Glissan and in 1st, 2nd and 4th
Class 2B - Ralph Thompson and Russ Maxwell again taking 1st and 2nd, with Derek Mock taking 7th on his first visit to the SMSP North Circuit
Class 2C - This was again a Porker, ... erm Porche-fest, but Luke Kovacic did a great job to take 7th place, particularly as he had recently fitted coilovers and needed to learn the new handling characteristics of his car
Class 3B - Kevin Addison took 2nd
Class 4B - Ed Cory took 1st and a North Circuit lap record, and David Lawler was 3rd
Class 5B - Unfortunately Phil Abraham was a late withdrawal. Where are you Phil?
Class 6A - Tony King took 2nd, an improvement from last round
Class SVB - Gus Elias and Greg Bunn took 2nd and 2rd, with Mike Hicks sitting out this round
Class SVD - Matt and Greg Perry brough home 6th and 8th in their Skyline against some tough competition.
The next supersprint round is on Sunday 20th July at the SMSP Brabham or Extended Circuit, which is a much nicer circuit for MX-5s, so with a good turnout we have a chance to extend our slender lead in the championship. To any club members who are supersprint championship registrants but have not entered for round 4 yet, please consider doing so. We need your help.
As always, supporters are very welcome. Entry to the circuit is free for spectators, so come along on 20th July and say hello to TeamMX5.
