2020 Motorsport Championship technical rules

25 November 2019 / Ian Combes

The 2020 motorsport technical rules are on the Club website!

I know its been a long time coming, but the Motorsport technical rules for the 2020 competition year have now been published on the Club's web page under Club Track Days. Believe me, I'm as glad as anyone to see them finished.

These rules have been very extensively discussed and debated within a technical working group convened for the purpose, so they weren't just dreamed up by the competition secretary...

These rules will come into effect on the 1st January, but the first track day is on the 16th February. Apologies for the notice - were meant to be done and dusted some months ago. Well, there's the Christmas break to get busy in the Garage:-)

The first year will be a bit of a learning exercise. The technical rules are pretty solid. No, we're not taking suggestions for improvements, but feel free to mention glaring errors.

The benchmark times (which the new rules use) have also been carefully worked out, but many are theoretical, so it will take some time to get practical experience with some of these benchmarks.

Before we get to the first track day of the year, the Club will get track days competitors to advise which Class/Category they think their car fits into (or will fit into by Feb) - this is as much to get everyone on the same page as it is a compliance thing.

I'm happy to clarify anything in the rules.

The calendar for next year has been a long and drawn out process, but I'll put the draft calendar real soon.
