John's Tasmania Road trip
The trip will take 25 days - 4 days down and back to the Tasman Ferry, 21 days in Tasmania including 7 optional driving days and 6 days off to do your own thing. There is no commitment to do optional drive days, this will be up to the individual. Overnight stops in Tasmania will be in Burnie, Stanley, Strahan, Hobart, Miena, Swansea, Launceston and Devonport.
The Ferry crossing will be booked for night crossings to make available as much time in Tasmania as possible. We can try for a group booking on the ferry but I will need to know passenger numbers and car type before contacting the ferry company.
The run will use waypoint forms for each day. The waypoint form will have on it two types of points, directional and waypoint. A directional point is simply to allow a car to follow a specified route with no stopping required. A waypoint is a point where the group will rejoin and wait for all vehicles on that run before continuing. Any individual can opt to do the day’s run alone or in a smaller group BUT must inform the organizer before starting off.
COSTING:
A rough calculation of fuel, accommodation and ferry comes to $5300 per car.
Fuel costs are approximately $800.00 (this will probably be higher due to price increases and varying fuel usage). The calculation does not include any side trips carried out by individuals on their days off.
Accommodation is based on suitable Motels for the dates of the run at approx. $3800.
Ferry at $696 for return with lounge, not cabin accommodation.
Costing DOES NOT include meals, side trips or tourist activities.
I believe a realistic cost for everything will be more in the vicinity of $8000 per car.
REQUIREMENTS:
I will be taking a maximum of 9 cars and this will also depend of availability of accommodation.
I will need commitment from those who wish to come to pay up front any expenses incurred for the booking of the ferry, if you wish to book your own crossing please indicate on the booking form.
People are welcome to go earlier or stay later but must commit to the full 21 days in Tasmania to participate.
All bookings will be required to be made very soon to secure ferry and accommodation.
Event Booking:
Only 10 cars can be accommodated on this trip, so the first 9 to book will be accepted to join us on the run. Any subsequent bookings will be kept as reserve in case a someone has to drop out. Order of booking will be booking date/time on the google forms result page.
