Twilight Run to Shoalhaven Heads
13 January, 2026
The weather gods were smiling on the members and guests of the South Coast chapter as we met up at Hungry Jacks in Bomaderry for the first run of the New Year.
Even with thunder storms on the forecast there was no discussion of roofs up or down, it was down for everyone, planning to drive faster if it rained!
7 cars were in the convoy, with Geoff and Rose leading, and Roger and Lesley having their first go at being tail end Charlie at the back.
The highway was busy just north of Nowra, but the ‘magnificent Seven’ managed to stay together just, and were enjoying it so much that Geoff missed our planned turn off to Berry, requiring a detour around Taylors Lane to keep everyone on their toes!
We left Berry along Woodhill Mountain Rd, and kept together as the numerous potholes, expertly called out by Rose in the lead car, kept everyone’s speed down.
The rain was light, and the mist gave an atmospheric feel as we wound our way up the mountain. Wattamolla and Bellawongarah came and went, and soon we were on the Kangaroo Valley road, heading back to Berry.
The route was a new one to me, and one I will enjoy driving again, hopefully in sunnier weather! Though we did glimpse a spectacular rainbow.
From Berry (without a stop at the treat factory- another thing for next time!) but a short stop for a train to go past we headed south to the Shoalhaven Heads pub just as the ‘ping’ on my phone alerted us to incoming thunderstorms. Good timing!
At the pub we met up with 3 other members, and enjoyed a convivial couple of hours socialising and swapping war stories of how we had all survived the Christmas, New Year holiday period!
With Pub Trivia starting at 7pm, and not wanting to show up the younger element who had arrived for that event, we all went on our merry way. Thanks Geoff & Rose for organising, and the year of fun times in our wonderful little cars begin!
