Swordfish Brewery
28 February, 2025
The weather was in the low thirties and the wind was blowing strongly when members left from home for our last Twilight Run for the season, Swordfish Brewers in Sussex Inlet.
For some of us this was a return visit, and it was definitely much busier on a Friday night than it was for our previous midweek lunch. With instructions given on how to find the car park we avoided the confusion Google gave everyone, directing cars to park in the water. Many of us met in the car park and Rose was wondering why Karen didn’t get out of the car to join us. A large male kangaroo was grazing near the passenger door and Karen was not keen to enter his space. She was promptly ‘rescued’ and joined our group.
Our outdoor seating was well placed as we had great views and a gentle breeze kept us cool, while the wind belted past us into people sitting closer to the water. Our seating, for fourteen, was quite snug and the bench seating required everyone to move to allow people out to order or grab another drink. Most of us were happy to stretch our legs.
We arrived 30 mins before the kitchen opened, so we all relaxed while having drinks and catching up with our friends. Many tried some of the locally brewed beverages, with mixed reviews. We had plenty of time to peruse the menu and to change our minds many times before ordering.
Dinner was a hit. Everyone was very happy with their meals. They were large servings, well presented and very tasty. Anne had one of the best hamburgers she had ever tasted and Rose’s chips (her favourite meal) were also up with the best. There were so many in the serve, Bob had to help eat them. Better too much than not enough. Ian’s cheesy garlic bread was amazing, and the pizzas also got the thumbs up.
We were keen to leave before it got too dark as we had to travel roads that were littered with wildlife from dusk, especially kangaroos.
Thanks to Geoff for organising this run for us. The Twilight runs were a ‘trial first’ for our Chapter and were a success with many members attending and having a great time. With daylight saving coming to an end, we have to wait until October for the next Twilight run.
