Sprint to Sutton Forest

Wednesday 25th June 2025 - Sprint to Sutton Forest by Leonie Goodsell

We had a week of severe winds, and this morning was no different. It was a cool 7* but felt like 0*.

Kerry Smith organised this great day out.

We met at Hungry Jacks, Haywards Bay, leaving at 10.00am.  We headed off to Macquarie Pass via Marshall Mount Road.
Top down?… of course, the sun was shining.

There are continuing road works half way up the Pass which made for a slow drive, plus we had to stop at the lights and wait our turn, giving us time to enjoy the sounds of the bush.

At the top of Macquarie Pass we stopped at the well known “Robertson Pie Shop” for a warming coffee and sweet treat.

Off again enjoying the back roads via Exeter, we were expecting a lot of debris, there was none, the winds must have cleared the way for us.

We arrived at Sutton Forest Inn to a very welcoming warm log fire and a menu to please every palate.

Leann showed me a very impressive “chook house” for the Inn’s chickens, which is the best I’ve ever seen, so had to grab a photo.

After enjoying a hot lunch and a catch up, it was time to head home. We decided to avoid the road works on Macquarie Pass, and instead went via Jamberoo Mountain and the Swamp Road.

It was a wonderful day out, I’m new to the club and don't own an MX-5 and today I enjoyed being Bryan’s passenger. Thank you very much. How do I put into words the exhilaration I feel being a passenger in the fabulous MX-5……I love every moment.
