Railway Museum Goulburn

14 MX5’s, 17 members and 2 guests meet for coffee at Bungendore before a short 1 hour run to Goulburn. My original plan was to travel via Tarago and Lake Bathurst to Goulburn, but I had received recent reports that the ongoing roadworks between Bungendore and Tarago had made the road unsuitable for MX5’s, so we proceeded along Bungendore road to the Federal hwy.

The tour guides at the museum split us up into 2 groups whereby we inspected restored, partially restored and original steam engines, diesel engines and carriages. To most of us walking though the restored carriages brought back memories of train trips in the 50’s and 60’s, or Harry Potter movies. I looked for platform 9 and ¾ but could not find it.

The tour guides, who also did all the restoration, allowed us to park our cars in front of some very old restored steam engines. See photo. Most accommodating.

So if you are into old trains this is an interesting place to visit for an hour or so. Lunch was at Roses Café where the service, selection and meals were excellent as usual.

We travelled back home to Braidwood via Tarago and I can confirm that this section of road is in excellent condition. But not Tarago to Bungendore.
