Gundy run in Spring? (Autumn)

A warm day to be expected we met up at Morpeth Common to start our run after a spot of morning tea. The local ducks and geese besieged us as they could see and smell all the yummy cakes and slices that had been taken out to eat. We had to check Lillo’s boot to see if she had taken on any feathered hitchhikers that may have stowed away.
A safety briefing was held and 14 cars, 24 members, set off on a not so very direct run to Gundy Pub for lunch. Our quest was to avoid the highway at all cost as the local roads that traverse through the country side are more interesting and twisty so more fun.
Our path took us along Maitland Vale Road and onto to Middle Fallbrook Road. A small stint on the New England highway and then off again to Hebden Road to go around Lake Liddell., once the largest power producing systems in NSW Liddell, now closed but Bayswater power station across the road was pumping out steam from its cooling towers.
Onward around Bengalla mine and missing Muswellbrook. At this point we chose to follow the GPS and not the run sheet down a road that eventually turned to dirt. But did find Castle rock, a tall rock structure that resembled a medieval castle shape and so named. Back the way we came and following the run sheet back to the highway until we turned onto Segenhoe Road to Gundy.
Gundy pub is always a favourite and set us up outside on the deck with the misting sprays helping out on the 38-degree day it became.
Thanks to John and Chris for organising the day and to everyone else for their company today.
