Flamin' Galah Lunch
29 January 2026
A convoy of 6 cars, with 3 silver, 2 white and Anda & Brian’s CX5, set off for a casual lunch run also unofficially known as ‘any excuse to drive and eat.’ Initially the run was going to Jervis Bay Brewing; however, a consensus changed our destination to The Flamin’ Galah Brewery which was almost next door. The Galah had off road parking, a level eating area and a wider menu.
Ten members gathered first at the big red bus parked at Schutz Landscape Supplies, where coffee was consumed and the conversations began. For many of us it was our first get together for 2026 so there was a lot to talk about. After a quick phone call to find out Ian Mc’s location, Rose confidently (ha, ha) took the lead, with Geoff navigating, guiding the convoy along the back roads toward Falls Creek. The MX-5s purred happily, clearly enjoying their natural habitat: twisty roads, sunshine, and no speed cameras in sight. Although a slow P plater did slow us down well below the speed limit. A scenic loop later, we rolled through Woollamia and into Huskisson, arriving about 5 minutes before the lunch opening time.
At the Flamin’ Galah, lunches were purchased from a food van ‘The Nest.’ Plates were large, quality was high, and several members immediately questioned whether they should have skipped breakfast. Some bravely tackled beer tasting paddles (for research purposes), while others leaned into cocktails or stuck with non-alcoholic options, wisely remembering the drive home.
Conversation flowed easily as we tucked in, seated beneath the pergola where a welcome cross-breeze took the edge off the warm summer day. Laughter mixed with the clink of glasses and the occasional groan of “I can’t possibly finish this”… followed shortly by finishing it anyway.
As we relaxed, news filtered in that inland temperatures were soaring into the 40s. We glanced at the ocean air, the shade, and our empty plates and agreed: we’re very lucky to live on the coast. Another successful MX-5 run, with great cars, great company, excellent food, and perfect conditions, it was one of those days that reminded us why these runs are always worth making.
