Australia Day Run and Picnic
Lamington, anyone?
Dust off the sunnies, fire up the MX-5, and come celebrate all things Aussie with your Illawarra MX-5 mates for a laid-back day of fun, food, and friendly nonsense.
For years we’ve flown the Australia Day flag at Cordeaux Dam and Cataract Dam — a cracking spot that made it easy for the Sydney and RPM Chapters to tag along. With those crews heading off on their own escapades this year, we’re pointing our bonnets towards the Southern Highlands, setting up shop at the Fitzroy Falls Reservoir Picnic Area.
Getting there is half the fun. Members are welcome to make their own way directly to Fitzroy Falls, or join us for a proper MX-5 convoy run of about two hours duration. We’ll kick things off at Hungry Jack’s Haywards Bay, tackle the twisties of Macquarie Pass, then meander through the scenic back roads of Kangaloon, Range Road, Mount Gibraltar, Oxleys Hill, Sutton Forest, Exeter, and Yarrunga. Plenty of bends, plenty of views, and plenty of excuses to grin.

Or perhaps you’re ready to unleash your inner champion at Jenga, where dignity is optional?
Not feeling competitive? No dramas. Take a stroll, pull up a chair, tell a tall tale, or enjoy a small ale while solving the world’s problems and admiring a fine collection of MX-5s.
Bring your chairs and a picnic lunch, settle in for the day, and chat about the latest MX-5 upgrades, road trips, or that mod you definitely didn’t need but bought anyway. Electric barbecues are available for anyone keen to burn a few sausages, so feel free to bring something sizzle-worthy along.
